Together with the Oberdrautal Outdoor Park, this region opens up a wide variety of opportunities for nature lovers and everyone who enjoys active holidays to go on fascinating journeys of discovery.
The options include hiking alongside wild waters and on trails through gorges, glacier trekking, the long-distance Alpe Adria Trail, the path to the cross on the summit of the Grossglockner, guided tours of “Magic Moments” led by rangers and mountain guides, and more besides.
A few courageous men first climbed to the summit of the Grossglockner in 1800. The Hohe Tauern National Park was founded in 1981, and covers an area of 1,836 square kilometres. Its extensive glacier fields, valleys formed during the Ice Age and fascinating flora and fauna make it one of the most mysterious settings in Austria.
