Großkirchheim

Großkirchheim is over 1,000 metres above sea level in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park, and is a place where you can feel the magic of the mountains.

Wide stretches of the three valleys (the Zirnitz, Graden and Gartl valleys) have been placed under nature conservation orders. The unspoiled landscapes with their very special treasures of nature offer wonderful hiking trails, varied destinations beside roaring waterfalls, and scented pine forests.

The Gartl waterfall is a place of power and energy for body and soul. The special climate has been shown to improve well-being at times of stress and burnout, and will top up your reserves of energy again. Beneath the waterfall is the “Urschreibecken” (primal scream pool), which is accessible on foot.

For winter sports lovers, the Region Nationalpark Hohe Tauern with the Glockner village of Heiligenblut offers simply limitless options, from skiing on one of the three-thousand-metre peaks or ski tours on untouched slopes deep in snow, to ice climbing on one of the numerous frozen waterfalls.
