It doesn’t matter whether you are looking for recreation or would prefer to be active, because in the Gitsch Valley, located between Lake Weissensee and the Nassfeld, you can do both. The Gitsch Valley is especially popular with hikers, who have a 200-kilometre network of hiking trails at their disposal.
Farm golf offers guaranteed fun for young and old. It all revolves around daily life on the farm, and the various holes are imaginatively decorated with farming utensils. So grab a wellie to use as a club, and off you go! Directly alongside is the Erlebnis-Freibad Gitschtal outdoor adventure pool – just the right place for a hot summer’s day.
One of the typical festivals in the municipality is the Gitsch Valley Cabbage Festival, which always takes place on the first Sunday in October. As the name suggests, it is entirely to do with the leafy vegetable: from cabbage lasagne or cabbage pizza to sweet temptations.
In winter the Weißbriach family ski region ensures that there is no risk of the next generation of skiers dying out, with several ski lifts, a ski school with ski and snowboard hire, plus quaintly traditional ski lodges. The Austrian racing skier Max Franz took his first sweeps across the gentle slopes here. The municipality also has attractive facilities for cross-country skiers.
