The Flow Country Trail acts as a magnet for mountain bikers, and at 11.5 kilometres is far and away the longest trail of its kind in Europe. You can travel conveniently by rail to the start of the trail. The tour leads downhill over ramps, rollers and jumps – and if you stop briefly, you will be rewarded with fantastic panoramic views of the mountains and swimming lakes.
If you prefer to take things a little more quietly, you will enjoy swimming in Lake Pirkdorfer See, where there is an attractive cross-country skiing arena in winter.
The inhabitants of Feistritz ob Bleiburg know how to celebrate festivals, such as the St. Anna Petzenkirchtag fair, the only fair to be celebrated at an altitude of more than 1,700 metres above sea level and that can only be reached by gondola lift. Not to be missed is the delicious “Gamsmilch”: white marzipan liqueur made from almonds and sugar by the Bleiburg liqueur manufacturer M.O. Glawar. The Petzen is not only a popular family ski region, but is also the site of Austria’s highest Christmas market.
