Dellach im Gailtal

A fantastically beautiful landscape straight from a picture book, hospitable people, cultural attractions, plenty of leisure activities and many events.

These range from cycling and riding, to fun in and on the water, hiking and mountain climbing. If you want to, you can follow in the footsteps of the settlers along earlier mule tracks and trade routes.

Culture vultures should be sure to pay a visit to the Herkulestempel Archaeological Park on the Gurina. The Roman-style temple houses interesting exhibitions, and the excavations here have been underway for more than ten years.

Dellach is in the GeoPark Carnic Alps, the richest fossil region in the Alps; since 2015 it has been a UNESCO Global Geopark. The GeoPark’s visitor centre is in Dellach. Here amongst other things you can admire 500-million-year-old fossils. The activities at the GeoPark include guided walks, school programmes, geotrails, etc.

The Lesach Valley and the Gail Valley are the first Slow Food Travel Region in the world. Their motto is: make time for the product and treat nature and her resources with care! Here they bake bread, make cheese, produce bacon and collect honey, and holidaymakers can actively join in and acquire knowledge, offering a holiday of a very special kind!
